Slow and steady wins the race, Really?
Slow computer is such a horrible thing, especially when one has to do lot of multitasking and require high end tasks from a system. Which is why, we decided to write about this most common problem and try understand the easy fixes as well.
Before we dig deeper into the things, let us try understanding the main reasons due to which system slows down. Computer speed impacts the performance and efficiently very badly, which is why this comes more important to make sure that speed is not compromised.
Few of the possible reasons may be, browser has unnecessary extensions, hard drive failure, Rogue programs are hogging all the processing power, an overzealous antivirus program, virus or Malware, too many startup programs, hard drive more than 90% occupied, OS is way too slick, don’t have enough memory etc.
How to fix –
There is always to root cause to a problem. Below are some steps that
can help you to come out from this situation. Please note that these are mainly for the Microsoft Windows systems.
Stop Background programs processes.
Go to “Task Manager” and “system configuration”
Click on start or windows orb and type in MSCONFIG then enter. In the startup option, you can disable your running programs.Click apply and reboot.
Remove temp files.
To do this, open the Start Menu or Run and type %temp% in the Search field. Press Enter and Temp folder will open. In the Temp folder, You can delete all files found in this folder and skip those files whose in use.
Disable unnecessary Startup Programs / Uninstall/remove unused programs/ Check misbehaving programs.
This is quite obvious, however ignored easily. Get rid of the programs which are no longer required. From the control panel, you can uninstall the unused programs/software.
Scan for malware/viruses.
Now, these days, Viruses, spyware and malware is a big cause of many slow computer problems. Even an antivirus is installed on the PC, we recommend running a malware scan on the computer. And also we should use the free version of Malwarebytes to scan a computer for malware and viruses. You can also scan your PC online.
Run a disk clean-up.
Windows also include a built-in tool “Disk Cleanup”. It removes the unnecessary large files such as program installers, temporary Internet files and so on.
Click on “Start” > “All Programs” > “Accessories” > “System Tools” > “Disk Cleanup”.
Computer or processor is overheating./Vacuum out the dust.
If you open your computer and Through the cooling fans, you won’t believe how much dust gets sucked into it. Dust can block airflow. Because of block airflow, the temperature will rise an
d its performance will slow. Use a vacuum to clean out the insides, but ensure the computer has been off for at least 30 minutes and also it disconnected from the mains.
If still speed is not good, then we can upgrade the hardware of the system. Follow –
Reinstall OS X ( Make sure data is backed up )
Get more hard drive storage /Clean up the hard drive/Free hard drive space/Hard drive upgrade/ Bad, corrupted or fragmented hard drive/ Install a faster hard drive.
- Get more RAM Memory upgrade.
- Upgrade your hardware/ Hardware conflicts/Hardware issues.
In this step, make sure that data is backed up. Because in this step, the data from the drive where OS (operating system / windows) is installed, or from all the drives could be deleted.
Hope all this information helps in fixing a slow computer. If you have any other step which you think could have been added in the post, please mention that in the comment section below.
